Lady Tigers win both games last week

The Lady Tigers parlayed a 27 point first quarter into a 69-43 victory over American Falls on Tuesday, Jan 6 in the Tiger Den, Aberdeen's second victory of the season over their long time rival was led by point guard Makenna Schritter with 18 points. Four Lady Tigers scored in double figures. They were Patricia Gonzalez with 14, and Tasha Pocock and Karissa Ramos with 11 each. Other Lady Tigers scoring were Josefina Uribe with 6, Zoe Behrend with 4, Klae O'Brien and Makenzie Rucker with 2 each and Madi Behrend with 1 point. Schritter, Pocock and Ramos each made one three point shot.

With 69 points, Aberdeen matched it's highest point total of the season. The Lady Tigers are currently the highest scoring, 2A girls basketball team in the state of Idaho, averaging 52 points per game, according to Lady Tiger coach Ryan Wahlen.

"I was a little nervous about this game as we were coming off the holiday break and you never know how rivalry games will turn out, however, the girls were just outstanding tonight. It's fun to coach such an amazing group of girls!" said Wahlen.

Patricia Gonzalez played a solid, all around game with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Josefina Uribe added 6 points and 6 steals.

On Friday, Jan. 9 the Lady Tigers slayed the Malad Dragons 47-33 for the first time since 2004. Aberdeen overcame foul trouble, poor shooting, and an aggressive, physical Dragon defense to notch their first win over their conference rival in 10 years.

Captains Makenna Schritter (12 points, 8 steals) and Madison Behrend (6 points, 8 rebounds) led the way. Tasha Pocock scored 11 points, Josefina Uribe 7 points, Makenzie Rucker 6 points, and Patricia Gonzalez scored 5 points. Pocock and Uribe both made one three point shot.

"Malad has been very good for quite a while. They have talented athletes and good coaching. It feels great to beat them. It's been a long time coming. I hope that our next victory over them will come in two weeks, not 10 years." said Coach Wahlen. "Our girls were great down the stretch tonight. Our shots weren't falling and things generally weren't going our way, but we hung in there, played extremely hard, and pulled out the most satisfying win I've ever had as a coach. I'm extremely proud of these girls. They're wonderful representatives of our community and school."

Aberdeen (10-4, 3-0 5th district) next plays at home Wednesday night, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. against Soda Springs (11-4, 3-0 5th district) in a battle for first place in the 5th district.

The Lady Tigers are grateful for all of the support they've received from the community this season and they hope that the gym will be packed Wednesday night against Soda, Wahlen said.

On Friday Jan. 16 the Lady Tigers will host another conference game against Bear Lake. Game times are 4:30/6/7:30 p.m.
