The Lamb Weston/ConAgra potato processing plant was one of three sites chosen by the Idaho Governor's Office of Energy Resources to receive an Idaho Award for Leadership in Industrial Energy Efficiency.

These awards recognize the industrial companies that are exceptional state leaders in implementing energy efficiency at their local facilities.

"For the three recipients, energy efficiency has become a source of both cost reduction and market advantage," a press release from the governor's office said.

Also helping choose this year's recipients were the Idaho Strategic Energy Alliance Industrial Energy Forum and lo- cal utilities. Along with Lamb Weston, On Semiconductor received the award, as did the J.R. Simplot Company for its Smoky Canyon Mine.

The three facilities combined have saved enough energy to power over 400 Idaho households for a year; demonstrating that these companies have proven to be exceptional state leaders in implementing energy efficiency at their local facilities. Each company has shown a corporate commitment to reduce their energy use and environmental impact on the state.

"With the industrial sector being the largest energy consumer in Idaho, we need to aggressively pursue reasonable cost-effective energy efficiency," Governor Otter said. "By pursuing these opportunities, we free up capacity on our transmission system, make more energy available to help our Idaho businesses expand, and ultimately become more economically competitive."
