Aberdeen BPA students compete well at regional

Aberdeen High School students competed well Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) regional competitions. State qualifiers include: Travis Klassen who placed first in Payroll Accounting, William Toevs who placed first in Presentation Management-Individual, and Kaelee Palmer who placed third in Medical Office Procedures.

These students will compete at the State Leadership Conference in Boise Saturday, March 12, for the opportunity to travel to the National Leadership Conference in Washington, DC May 4 through 8.

Other students who competed well include Abby Toevs who placed fourth in Fundamental Word Processing, beating out 20 other students from schools in this region. Kaelee Palmer placed fourth in Interview Skills, Taylor and Taetem Simms placed third in Animation Team, Taetem Simms placed fourth in PC Troubleshooting and Repair, and Travis Klassen placed fourth in Fundamental Accounting. These students have the chance to compete at state if one of the other finalists cannot attend.

"I am so incredibly proud of all of the members of Aberdeen BPA," said advisor Anna Aldous. "These kids are all winners, not only for the work ethic they showed in preparing for these events, but also for the character they demonstrated at the competitions. We have a great group of kids here in Aberdeen and each and every one did an outstanding job."

Business Professionals of America is a national student organization that allows students to be involved in leadership activities, community 'Service' activities and business related competitions. The organization also promotes ideals such as friendship, service, cooperation, love, hope, faith, knowledge, and patriotism. Students have the opportunity to apply their business and technology related skills during competitions throughout the year. The regional competitions occur at the end of January and allow students to compete against other students in the region. At regional, students can qualify to attend the state competition in Boise if they place in the top three in a regular event and within the top two in a judged event. There are approximately 60 different competitive events that are offered.
