Aberdeen Mayor and three council seats up for election

Linda Balls, city clerk, announced that there will be elections this year for three council members and the office of Mayor. Elections will be held for seats held by Mayor Morgan Anderson and city council members Katherine O'Brien, Larry Barrett and Craig Wampler. If you are interested in filing a Declaration of Candidacy for a council position or for Mayor, you need to go to city hall and fill out the paperwork.

You will need to file a Declaration of Candidacy and either pay a nonrefundable fee of $40 or attach a Petition of Candidacy signed by at least five qualified city electors, preferably more.

The filing period for a Declaration of Candidacy for this election is Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. to Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.

Candidates must live within the city limits to be eligible for positions.

Elections will be held in November.
