Oklahoma State Bank's Sandra Henry finally settles down on Monkey Island
Sandra Kelly Henry, Bank Product Specialist at Oklahoma State Bank, on Monkey Island, was born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana. One can still hear a touch of that southern drawl when she speaks. She was the third of six children. When Sandra turned 18, she married Jimmy Henry, and they have now been married for 43 years.
Jimmy was active duty military for 24 years so the couple lived in a variety of states and abroad. Their oldest daughter, Kim, was born in Virginia, and their youngest daughter Susan, was born in Germany. Both daughters are married, one living in Edmond and one in Duncan and have given Sandra and Jimmy four grandchildren, three grandsons and one granddaughter. Our granddaughter graduates from OU in 2010, said Sandra, Jimmy and I are very excited about that. Go Red!
When Jimmy retired from the military he went to work in Civil Service at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Sandra was already working for the Credit Union there, and after 22 years retired in 2005.1 didnt work for a year after I retired, said Sandra. I thought that was what I wanted to do, but found out different.
The Henrys decided to move to Oklahoma to be closer to family. Susan, my daughter in Edmond, had a lot on Monkey Island and told us that she would give it to us if we would build on it. We took them up on that offer and now have a home in Echo Bay.
I moved to Oklahoma in July 2006, before Jimmy retired in December. I worked at the Credit Union in Miami, before going to work at Oklahoma State Bank here on Monkey Island. It is wonderful living close to home and not having to worry about driving long distances on icy roads.
Jimmy is retired and when not playing golf at Patricia Island is helping out with golf events. He just called me, all excited, as he had just made his first hole-in-one!
When not working I like to settle in with a good Nora Roberts book and I also love to scrapbook. Our daughters and families enjoy coming to the lake to boat, jet ski and fish, especially the daughter in Edmond, who gave us the lot. She is a nurse and her husband is in pharmaceutical sales. They stay busy with work and being involved in their childrens sports activities. So, they enjoy coming to the lake every chance they get just to relax.
We have a boat and go out on the lake, not as much as we would like, due to my work schedule, but I love what I do. I really enjoy helping people and developing lasting relationships. Working at Oklahoma State Bank has given me an opportunity to do both.
I am really excited about a new promotion that the bank has called Pony Up. If you use your debit card it is automatically rounded up to the next dollar. The difference between the actual debit amount and that dollar amount then falls into your savings account or another account that you designate. A lot of people find it easier in balancing their checkbooks by using whole dollars, so it is easier for them and they are able to save a little extra money. You would be surprised how fast it builds up. If you are looking for a way to save money without thinking about it, come see me.
