Park board turns off the lights in Eberhardt Park
It's lights out in Eberhardt Park; at least until March.
Arthur Community Park District commissioners have turned the lights off to determine how much they can save in electricity charges during the winter months.
When they receive the electricity bill for February, it will be compared with the bill from a year ago.
During the January 10 park board meeting, president Andy Bernius gave an update on work in progress at Brad-O-Clen.
The fireplace has been torn out and a new one has been set against the south wall of the building. The concrete floor under the old fireplace is in good shape and does not need to be replaced.
Brian Otto, who is doing the work, included tearing out the old concrete and replacing it in his price estimate.
Bernius said Otto is willing; to deduct $650 from the cost of the work.
The board president proposed using the rebate to pay for applying an epoxy stain to the floor. Bernius said the epoxy application will solve problems resulting from the concrete drawing moisture.
No decision was made last week concerning the floor. The commissioners plan to hold their February 14 meeting at Brad-O-Clen and will discuss the floor at that time.
Shawn Vanausdoll reported that Lacey Wehrle will return this year to manage the swimming pool. Other pool employees will be hired in April and May.
Tim Likens and Vanausdoll will attend the park district convention in Chicago.
They will take a list of equipment and supply purchases to make during the expo. Vendors offer special pricing on equipment and supplies.
The board authorized them to spend up to $2,000 and to shop around for a portable wheelchair lift that will be used at the swimming pool. They hope to find one for around $3,200.
