An arrest has been made in the investigation of a residential burglary that was reported early Wednesday morning, February 16.

Police were called to a residence in the 100 block of South Ash Street at 5:19 a.m. concerning a burglary. The police searched the area and arrested Jeremy L. Harlin, 31, of Arthur at 6:52 a.m. in the 200 block of North Elm Street.

Harlin was transported to Douglas County Jail in Tuscola where he was held on felony charges.

Police Chief Mike Goodman would not release any other details of the incident because the investigation continues.

Two drivers escaped serious injury in a head-on collision on North Vine Street near 4th Street. The accident occurred at 6:10 p.m. Friday, February 18.

Paul J. Bunting, 70, of Tolono was southbound on Vine Street in a 2011 Buick Enclave. Timothy J. Kauffman, 18, of Lovington was northbound on Vine Street in a 1996 Nissan Altima.

As Bunting's vehicle passed the 4th Street intersection, it drifted into the northbound lane and struck Kauffman's automobile head-on.

Both drivers were treated by Arthur Ambulance personnel but declined transport to hospital.

Bunting advised the investigating officer that he fell asleep while operating the motor vehicle. Police issued Bunting a citation for improper lane usage with a March 31 court appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Bunting's Enclave was removed by Arcola Auto Tech. Kauffman's Nissan was removed by Collins Oil Service.

Arthur Fire Department assisted police and emergency services personnel at the scene.

Police on February 20 cited Jessica R. Peachey, 19, of Arthur for illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor. Peachey was stopped at 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Industrial Parkway.

As a result of the traffic stop, a 15-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor and for a curfew violation. The juvenile was released to a family member pending the filing of juvenile charges.

Peachey was issued a court date at 1:30 p.m. on March 21 in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Arthur Police on February 21 investigated an accident that occurred in the parking lot of the First National Bank of Arthur in the 100 block of West Progress Street.

The Jeep was parked in the lot on the north side of the bank building.

Dierner was driving through the parking lot and applied the brakes to go around the building. His vehicle slid on the icy surface and struck the parked Jeep. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $500 to $1,000.

The front fender area of the minivan struck the driver's side rear quarter panel of the Jeep.

Diener was not injured. Police issued no citations because the accident occurred on private property (business parking lot). Both vehicles were removed by their respective owners.
