Bennie Lee Cooper, 76, known to his friends as Ben, died at the VA hospital in Phoenix on Friday, December 21, 2012.

He was born September 25, 1936, in Grand Coulee, Washington, to Farrell & Nellie Cooper.

He received a bachelor's degree in business from California State University - Chico.

Mr. Cooper served in the Navy's Construction Battalion, often called the Seabees.

He and his wife Marjorie were married on June 12, 1960, in Red Bluff, California.

He made a career in internal construction, working mostly on refineries, and was employed by Kellogg in Houston, Texas, when he retired in 1996.

Mr. Cooper was a member of the Ajo Garden Club and served on the committee working to make Ajo a Certified Wildlife Habitat Community.

He enjoyed building homes and water gardens and creating metal art. His home in Ajo was the second he designed and built after retiring. The first was in Lake Livingston in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Ivan Verl Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Cooper of Ajo; by his sons, Ross Cooper of Spokane Valley, Washington, and Erik Cooper of Magalia, California; and by his grandchild Kennedy Cooper.

Pastor Jeannie Morago and local Masons will conduct services in the Ajo Federated Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3. His ashes will be scattered by his family.

Arrangements are being made by Douglass Funeral Home.
