Sweet Water ends regular season with 71-56 win
Sweet Water broke open a close ballgame in the second quarter and went on to defeat Excel, 71-56, Friday, Jan. 30 in Excel.
Sweet Water led, 20-18, at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Excel 17-6 in the second stanza to take a, 37-24, lead at the half.
Excel opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run to cut the Bulldog lead to 37-30. Late in the period, the Panthers came within five-points, 42-37, but Sweet Water got clutch scoring from Antonio Landrum and Jul Gaines to turn the game into a rout:
The Dawgs led, 49-40, after three quarters.Antonio Landrum led Sweet Water in scoring with 28 points, Gaines dropped in 14, and Chris Landrum scored 10.
In the girls contest, Sweet Water took a, 36-32, decision over Excel, hanging on after holding a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter.
Sweet Water led the low-scoring affair, 8-2, at the end of the first quarter, and 18-10 at the half. Excel came back in the third period to cut the deficit to, 26-24, going into the final eight minutes.
Sweet Water's Lakeisha Johnson led all scorers with 16 points.
