Arthur Jerome "Buddy" Dehnel, age 82, of East Bernard, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 in a Richmond hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 23, 1932 in East Bernard to the late Otto and Mary Vanzura Dehnel.

Buddy was reared in East Bernard and attended East Bernard schools. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Later, Buddy worked for the City of Houston at the water treatment plant. An avid musician, he enjoyed Czech music and played his tuba in many local bands. Buddy enjoyed going to church picnics to listen to the music by the Red Ravens and the Shiner Hobo Band. He also loved working on old tractors and being involved with the East Bernard American Legion.

Following cremation, his remains will be entombed at Houston VA National Cemetery and a local memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his sisters, Janet Kirk of Rockport and Dorothy Schroeder of Houston; nephew, Ray Schroeder and wife Jennifer of Houston; and many friends and fellow coffee drinkers at Dairy Queen.
