Arrest made in 2010 Carr murder case

CopyA 55-year-old Macon County man has been arrested in connection with the 2010 murder of retired businessman and farmer Richard Carr, according to a news release Saturday, Dec. 22 from the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
Haywood Floyd was charged with one count robbery in the first degree and one count murder, according to the statement. He is currently held at the Macon County jail.
According to a 2010 report, Carr had just returned to his Hardaway Community home from picking up something to eat on an October Friday when someone shot him once about 15 feet from his back door.
Married for more than 30 years, Carr, 65, was a well-known retired businessman and farmer.
Friends of Carr had raised $50,000 to go as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspects in Carr's death. The award was announced during a press conference at Rudy's Store in Shorter, a business that Carr ran for about a decade. No information pertaining to the reward was mentioned in the press release from the Department of Public Safety.
