Brian Petersen was recognized as a Graduate of Distinction for North Mason High School at the school's recent North Mason Senior Awards ceremony.

Petersen, a 1986 graduate of the high school, received the award for his philanthropy work and dedication to the community, according to a news release. District Superintendent Dana Rosenbach presented the award. Former teacher Mark Nutman nominated Petersen, with five additional letters of support from community members.

Nutman cited several accomplishments, including Petersen's service as a founding board member of the Boys & Girls Club in North Mason, implementing public art and community entrance signs, volunteering as a North Mason team doctor for 17 years and a former Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year" recipient.

Petersen spoke during the ceremony, encouraging others to participate in philanthropy.

"Whether it's giving of your treasure, or philanthropy of your time, energy, passion and ideas, your community will be impacted by your giving back," he said.
