Georgia Pacific's Naheola Mill. Our mill Manager Ronnie Hall had the pleasure of presenting a check to the Marengo County Fire and Rescue Tuesday night, Oct. 27.

Marengo County Fire and Rescue was one of the awardees this for a donation from Georgia-Pacific's Bucket Brigade Program.

Volunteer fire departments are nominated every year for the work they do and a need they have. The nominations are voted on and Marengo County Fire and Rescue was picked to receive $8,000.00 and Bucket Brigade gear from Georgia-Pacific.

Ronnie Hall, mill manager for Naheola, said "I'm just really proud to part of a company that thinks so much of our firefighters and emergency response personnel."

It's amazing to think that in the United States over one million firefighters give of themselves to put out fires, rescue family pets from trees, and teach our children fire prevention at school. But, what's more amazing is that the majority of these selfless acts go unpaid.

More than 70% of the firefighters that protect our homes, children and communities are volunteers, and many volunteer at facilities without the necessary resources to properly perform their duties.

To address this issue and to thank the brave men and women who protect the communities around Georgia-Pacific facilities, the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade program was created in 2006.

In 2008, the company began a partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) to increase outreach efforts to firefighting units in Georgia-Pacific communities and make them aware of the opportunity for funding.

Since 2006 Georgia-Pacific has contributed more than $1.5 million to fire departments through cash grants, safety education materials, and National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) memberships.
