Seventh Annual 'Spring Into Gardening9 workshop to be held February 28 at Lifespan Center

Coles County Extension Master Gardeners will present their Seventh Annual "Spring Into Gardening" workshop from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 28, at LifeSpan Center located just north of Route 16 between Charleston and Mattoon. Doors open at 8 for check-in.

Silent auction items will be on display, and delicious refreshments will be available throughout the morning. Speakers will begin their programs promptly at 8:45. Topics include space saving approaches to gardening and ideas for refreshing your landscape design.

Mark Dwyer, director of horticulture at Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, Wisconsin, will present "Vertical Gardening" and "Ideas to Refresh Your Landscape." Dwyer holds a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Illinois and another degree in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.

Martha Brown, who has been a Coles County Extension Master Gardener since 2009, will demonstrate space-saving designs for growing a variety of herbs in the garden in "Herb Spirals."

The morning will wrap up with results of the silent auction and the drawing for door prizes.

The workshop costs $25 per person. Seating is limited, and pre-registration is required. Registration opened Friday, January 9, with three options.
