ALAH wins Lake Land College Business and Computer Contest

Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School placed first overall at the annual Business and Computer Contest sponsored by the Lake Land College Business Division and Club IT.

The team, coached by Amanda Romine, had two first-place finishes, one second place, and three third-place finishes.

Taking firsts were Jeremy Plank in Microsoft Excel and Samantha Landers in Microsoft Word.

Christy Allen placed second in Keyboard Timings and third in Internet Treasure Hunt.

Beth Lambdin was third in Keyboard Timings and Proofreading.

Beecher City High School was the runner up, followed by Charleston High School.

Other schools participating in the event were East Richland High School, Paris High School, Kansas High School, Flora High School, Mattoon High School, Newton High School, Dieterich High School, Robinson High School, Centralia High School, Champaign Centennial High School, Champaign Central High School, Marshall High School, North Clay High School, and Windsor High School.

"We look forward to this contest every year," said Kathy Black, business division chair and coordinator of the contest. "We enjoy seeing and visiting with area business teachers and interacting with talented students. It's a great opportunity for students to showcase their business and computer skills."

Students competed in the following categories: accounting, desktop publishing, general business and current events, Internet treasure hunt, keyboard timings, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, proofreading, and web page design.

Depending on the category, students either completed a written test or a hands-on test on the computer.

First place winners of each contest received a 3-credit-hour tuition waiver from Lake Land College.

Accounting — Chance Poe, third place, Kansas; Andrew Moeller, Beecher City, second place; Parker Moses, Flora, first place.

General Business and Current Events — Brent Phillips, East Richland, third place; Troy Niemerg, Dieterich, second place; Clay Weber, Beecher City, first place.

Desktop Publishing — Abby Siler, Robinson, third place; Josh Klingler, Charleston, second place;

Megan Heath, Mattoon, first place.

Microsoft Excel — Janelle Parish, Charleston, third place; Michael Kuznicki, Charleston, second place; Jeremy Plank, Arthur, first place.

Internet Treasure

Hunt — Christy Allen, Arthur, third place; Andrew Moeller, Beecher City, second place; Robert Sanders, Paris, first place.

Keyboard Timings — Beth Lambdin, Arthur, third place; Christy Allen, Arthur, second place; Dalton Fain, Newton, first place.

Microsoft Word: Tiffany Gates, Beecher City, third place; Holly Stallard, East Richland, second place; Samantha Landers, Arthur, first place.

Proofreading — Beth Lambdin, Arthur, third place; Norah Blache, second place, Charleston; Holly Stallard, East Richland, first place.

Web Page Design — Clay Weber, Beecher City, third place; Jonah Pfiester, Kansas, second place; Chris Pettyjohn, Paris, first place.
