Aluminum cans, metals, plastic bottles, bicycles, and household appliances may be recycled for instant cash right in Ajo, saving the long drive to the big city.

Jose Regalado is open for recycling through the summer on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. He lives in the house directly across the highway from the La Siesta Motel in the 2560 block of Ajo-Gila Bend Highway, and may be reached at 602-373-8491.

Aluminum cans are currently going for 60-cents a pound, according to Regalado. He said the prices for other metals changes from week to week. He added that he does not accept TVs, computers, or other electronics.

SMART, or Save Money Ajo Recycling Tips, is a local grassroots recycling effort organized by Gayle & Don Weyers with cooperation of the Ajo Garden Club.
