Helped 24 charities in seven states

In the week leading up to the closing of Art for a Purpose July 19 - purchases resulted in contributions to nonprofits in and out of the state of Delaware. Local charities, including the Lewes Historical Society, Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, Lewes Public Library, Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Rehoboth Art League, and Delaware Botanic Gardens, benefited from this week's sales.

Since the gallery opened in 2011 support has been provided to 24 charities in seven states, plus Washington, D.C.

Through July 19, prices will be further reduced and the purchaser will have the opportunity to name his/her favorite charity to receive 20 percent of the proceeds, thus enabling two charities to benefit from each sale - the one identified by the purchaser and the one previously identified by the person who donated the art.

„ To date, several thousand dollars have been distributed to nonprofits throughout the region.

The public is invited to visit the gallery, inside the Lewes office of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's International Realty at 102 Savannah Road in Lewes: Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Be sure to visit the gallery Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 3 to 6 p.m., to browse the selections while enjoying a glass of wine courtesy of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's.

A number of interesting pieces are still available from internationally well-known artists like Bragg, Erte, and Jiang, and local artists like Rogers and Smith. There is something to satisfy every taste and style: a beautiful Japanese woodblock print; original oil portraits from the late 1800s; a tranquil seashore scene of boats languishing in the water; a surreal desert scene; and more.

"There is no way the gallery could have existed for the past four years without the generous support of Kathleen Schell and Justin Healy, owners of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's International Realty, located in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach," said Midge Smith, originator and executive director of Art for a Purpose.
