A Delmar man was arrested in Rehoboth Beach July 10 for allegedly trying to strangle a woman in the area of Royal Farms on Columbia Avenue. Rehoboth police say Jeremy Lake, 37, choked and struck an unnamed woman in the head with his elbow after a night of drinking. Police say Lake first assaulted the victim on the night of July 8 when he threw her down multiple times and choked her after Lake had been out drinking. The next evening, Lake and the victim were out at a local bar when they began to argue on their way home. During the argument, police say Lake again choked the woman and hit her in the head. Lake fled the scene before officers arrived but was apprehended in Grove Park around 10 a.m. July 10.

Lake's victim sustained non-life threatening injuries, including bruises, swelling and lacerations, police said. Lake was charged with two counts of felony strangulation, two counts of misdemeanor third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Lake was incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institution on $14,100 secured bail.
