Local emergency re-sponders were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident at 11:22 a.m. on Thursday, August 16.

Arthur Ambulance Service transported two Decatur men to area hospitals for treatment of injuries they received when their vehicle left the road and crashed on the edge of a cornfield along the Arthur-Atwood Road.

The accident occurred approximately three-fourths mile south of U.S. 36.

John Rucker, 39, of Decatur was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, and his passenger, Timothy L. Nihiser, 43, also of Decatur, was transported to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Rucker was driving a 1993 Pontiac owned by Nihiser northbound in traffic on the Arthur-Atwood Road. He attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him and lost control.

The Pontiac veered off the road, crossing the northbound lane and running into the ditch on the west side. The vehicle turned over and came to rest partially in a cornfield.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was listed as a total loss on the Moultrie County Sheriff's Department accident report.

Joe Walker Towing removed the vehicle from the accident scene.

No tickets were issued.
