Arcola woman injured in 2-vehicle accident recovering in hospital
Authorities continue to investigate a two-vehicle accident that happened Saturday evening and sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.
Areola Fire and Rescue and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched at approximately 6:33 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Douglas County roads 400 North and 700 East for a two-vehicle crash with entrapment.
Authorities determined that an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Dwight B. Butler, 63, of Salem, had failed to yield at the intersection and collided with a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt automobile driven by Emily Romine, 21, of Areola.
Romine was hit in the driver's side door, causing her to be pinned inside against a utility pole and on top of a gas line. She was removed from the vehicle and transported to Carle Hospital in Urbana by Schrader's Ambulance where she remained in serious but stable condition on Monday afternoon.
Ameren gas and electric responded and assisted in the removal of Romine's vehicle by Auto Tech Towing.
Butler was cited for failure to yield at an unmarked intersection and was released without any injury.
Romine served the two-county area as 2009 Miss Moultrie-Douglas County Fair.
