Man killed when automobile strikes bicycle on County Line

A 53-year-old rural Arthur man was killed Friday morning when the bicycle he was riding was struck head-on by an automobile on the County Line Road south of Arthur.

The accident occurred around 6:49 a.m. The automobile was traveling north and came up behind a bicycle also going north. As the automobile pulled over to the left to overtake the bicycle, the vehicle crossed the center line and struck the southbound bicycle.

County coroner Lynn Reed pronounced him dead at the scene, it Driver of the 2000 Mercury automobile, a 41-year-old male from Mattoon, who was not identified in the news release issued by District 10 Illinois State Police, voluntarily submitted to chemical testing, collected by Moultrie County Sheriff's office. Results of the chemical testing are pending.

Driver of the automobile was cited by Moultrie County Sheriff's Office for improper overtaking.

Schrock was not wearing a helmet or contrasting clothing, according to the State Police accident report. Driver of the automobile was wearing a properly adjusted seat safety belt.
