A slick, icy road on Friday morning caused an automobile to strike a school bus on County Road 1800E about four-tenths of a mile north of its intersection with County Road 1700N south of Arthur in Jonathan Creek Township.

According to the accident report no one was injured.

The accident involved a 1998 Chevrolet automobile driven and owned by Laura M. Blakeney, 40, of Sullivan and a 1996 International school bus owned by Miller Bus Service of Arthur and driven by Linda J. Byers, 57, of Arthur.

A passenger, Ervin E. Stutzman, 60, of rural Sullivan, was riding in the Blakeney vehicle. There were no passengers in the bus. No one was injured.

The Blakeney automobile was northbound on 1800E; the bus was southbound on the same road.

According to the Moultrie County Sheriff's Office accident report, Blakeney's vehicle began to slide on the icy roadway as it approached the oncoming bus.

Byers saw the automobile sliding out of control and pulled off the roadway in an attempt to avoid a collision.

The left front corner of the automobile hit the driver's side of the school bus behind the rear wheel well before spinning around and coming to a stop on the roadway.

The automobile was driven from the scene. The bus was towed.

Blakeney was issued a ticket for driving too fast for conditions.

Arthur Police Chief Mike Goodman assisted the Moultrie County Sheriff's Department in the investigation.
