Clarkdale man killed after car hits semi
At about 6:22 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, Camp Verde Marshal's Office deputies were dispatched to a serious two-vehicle accident on State Route 260 at approximately milepost 218 west bound.
The accident was reported to be involving a passenger car and a tractor-trailer in a rear-end collision.
When officers arrived on scene, they had found a white Toyota sedan had collided with the tail end of a tractor-trailer.
The scene immediately became a multi-agency effort, with assistance of surrounding agencies including the Camp Verde Fire District, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation and Yavapai Apache Police Department.
Both the passenger and driver of the white sedan required extraction to be freed from the vehicle.
The passenger, Daniel Thornburg, 36, of Cottonwood, was flown to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix.
The driver, Charles M. Zunitch, 37, of Clarkdale, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Arthur Wozniak, of Litchfield Park, was uninjured in the accident.
At this time, there does not seem to be any impairment of either driver.
The accident is still under investigation with assistance provided by DPS and ADOT.
