Fair representation on the UBT Cooperative District
City Hall Update
Below please see a letter sent by Mayor Johnny Ford to members of the City Council, the Utilities Board and the Cooperative District on October 7, 2015:
Dear Cooperative District: It is clear to me that for political reasons — and it is my opinion that in order to satisfy all — that we strive to establish an 11-member Tuskegee-UBT Cooperative District in order that all members of the Council and the Utilities Board may be able to serve.
I have discussed this with our bond counsel on the best legal approach to conduct the work of the cooperative district. I am also going to suggest that we place the responsibility of the development of Exit 38 into the capable hands of the Macon County Economic Development Authority and totally out of political hands.
I trust that Joe Turnham and the authority to develop Exit 38 after their success in developing the Shorter exit.
The bond counsel will send to us their legal opinion on the entire Council and UBT Board providing support for the development of Exit 38.1 would also suggest that someone from Tuskegee University be appointed to the Cooperative District.
We need to work cooperatively to develop a commercially enticing front door — 1-85 at Exit 38 that will bring business and tourism to Tuskegee.
