Incumbent MacEwen throws hat in ring for reelection

State Rep. Drew MacEwen announced earlier this month that he will run for another term in the Legislature.

MacEwen (R-Union), who holds Position 2 in the 35th Legislative District, will face challenger Craig Patti, an Allyn resident, in this fall's general election.

"It has been an honor and privilege representing the people of the 35th District in the state House of Representatives the past four years," MacEwen said in a news release.

MacEwen, who was elected in 2012, said during his time in office, the state has had the largest increase to K-12 funding since 1980, and has reduced higher education tuition by an average of 20 percent. The news release also pointed out reforms to the state Department of Veterans Affairs that have reduced red tape for veterans, among other changes during his tenure.

MacEwen said if re-elected, he will continue to work on comprehensive tax reform, especially as it relates to the state's business and occupation tax. He also said he'll continue to improve the state's K-12 education system, and work on "holding state government accountable and demanding the very best in the most cost effective way."

The state representative is the ranking member on the House's General Government and Information Technology Committee, and is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the Joint Veteran and Military Affairs Committee and the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee.

"I am excited for the 2016 campaign season and listening to voters' desires for our state," MacEwen said.

MacEwen is the founder and president of Union-based Falcon Financial. He lives in the town with his family.
