School district seats, issues in election
The Yavapai County Education Service Agency has announced school district information for the upcoming general election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
School districts with contested elections include:
Camp Verde USD has two seats with four-year terms. Candidates are Mick Martin, Kitty McDowell and Tim Roth.
Clarkdale-Jerome ESD has three seats with four-year terms. Candidates are Laurie Lozano, Becky O'Banion, Robert Szmanda and Dale Williams.
Yavapai College District No. 2 has one seat with a two-year term. Candidates are Herald Harrington and Deb McCasland.
Some districts will have uncontested elections and only the requisite number of qualified candidates. As a result, Tim Carter, Yavapai County School Superintendent, will recommend that the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors cancel the elections and make appointments in compliance with Arizona Revised Statute §15-424.D.
Uncontested elections in the Verde Valley are:
Beaver Creek ESD has two seats with four-year terms. Candidates are Joette Burke and Karen DuFresne.
Cottonwood Oak-Creek ESD has three seats. Marvin Lamer is a candidate for a two-year term. Candidates for four-year terms are M. Jason Finger and Janice Rollins.
Mingus Union HSD has two seats with four-year terms. Candidates are Anita Glazar and Jim Ledbetter.
Sedona-Oak Creek JUSD has two seats with four-year terms. Candidates are Karen McClelland and Zachary Richardson.
VACTE Camp Verde has one seat with a four-year term. The write-in candidate is Steven Pike.
VACTE Cottonwood has one seat with a four-year term. The candidate is Steve Dockray.
VACTE Mingus has one seat with a four-year term. The candidate is Leland Wieweck.
VACTE Sedona has one seat with a four-year term. The candidate is Houston Moore.
Two districts will hold special elections. Cottonwood-Oak Creek No. 6 will hold a bond election, sale of not to exceed $15 million principal amount or school improvement bonds. Mingus Union School District No. 4 will ask for a 10 percent district additional assistance override.
