The Lake Buchanan Conservation Corps (LBCC) will present their annual report about the "State of the Lake" at 7 p.m. Monday, May 17, at the Hill Country Hall, located at 15675 Texas 29 East in Buchanan Dam.

District 2C Fisheries Management Biologist Marcos De Jesus with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department will be the guest speaker.

De Jesus holds a master's degree from Southern Illinois University and has worked with the Inland Fisheries Division since 2006. He supervises a team which engages in monitoring fish populations and aquatic habitats by collection of fisheries data through standardized survey methods and using the data to make science-based management decisions.

His discussion will include reporting of findings his team accumulated from gill net surveys done on Lake Buchanan in February of this year.

"These surveys give us a factual look at 'The State of The Lake' as concerns Lake Buchanan fish populations and the overall health of the lake as pertains to the various fish species and the availability of food to sustain the fish populations," said Annette Gardner of the LBCC Board of Directors.

DeJesus also will report on his team's findings relating to the effects the long term drought has had on the white bass populations in the Lake Buchanan and Inks Lake.

"This meeting will be very informative to all who fish the lake or are just interested in the lake as a sustainable fishery," said Gardner. "The public is welcome attend."
