Classic cars on display downtown Sunday
14th annual event benefits historical society
Tricked-out hot rods, antique automobiles and souped-up motorcycles are among the vehicles on display at the Mason County Historical Society's 14th annual Car Show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday on Railroad Avenue in downtown Shelton. The judging will be at 10 a.m., and trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Square. This is the largest annual fundraiser for the group, which operates the Mason County Historic Museum. All models and makes of antique, classics, rods and motorcycles will be accepted. The registration fee is a minimum donation of $10, with all proceeds going to the Mason County Historical Society. About 380 vehicles were showcased at last year's show, said Justin Cowling, director of the museum. Some of the owners travelled from as far away as Alaska and Idaho, while the event also drew many people from King and Pierce counties, he said. Last year's car show raised about $8,000 for the historical society, Cowling said. Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to the first 300 vehicle owners who register. Items donated by local merchants and individuals will be raffled throughout the day. Pieces of pie can be purchased for a donation at the museum at 427 W. Railroad Ave.
Olympic Mountain ice cream will also be available. The event also includes a Poker Walk.
The car show is promoted by the Friends of the Museum, and the sponsors include Transmissions Plus, Green Diamond Resource Co., Snap-On Tools, Lynch Creek Floral, Olympic Mountain Mill-work, First Choice Automotive Service, Sew What Now, Blondie's Restaurant, Mason County Septic Systems, Apex Collision Services, Shelton Veterinary Hospital and 01-sen Furniture.
Volunteers are being sought for the event. For more information, call 426-2120 or 426-4422. To donate pies, call 426-8443.
