Gila County Gem and Mineral Show set for this weekend
Come to the 54th Gila County Gem and Mineral Show at the Gila County Fairgrounds, three miles north of the junction of U.S. 60 and 70, near Globe. The show is open on Friday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. and the same hours on Saturday, Jan. 21, then again on Sunday, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Students and children get in free and it's only $3 for each adult or $5 per couple. The gem show regularly features unfinished stones as well as finished jewelry, lapidary supplies, and artisans ready to demonstrate their fine craftsmanship. During the days, there will be special presentations on mining and fossils.
The front room will have displays, dealers and demonstrations, and there will be a continuing silent auction, as well as door prizes and a snack bar, provided by the Fraternal Order of Police, to tempt your tummy with deliciously edible eatables. The Wheel of Fortune game and the Grab Bags, always popular, will be available for play. This year's show will also include exciting new areas, such as an 5,000 square foot room built for hands-on learning and presentations.
Kids! Come gold panning, fossil digging and geode breaking. Rough rocks will be available to take home or to cut and polish, and, if you bring a picture of your pet, a local artist will paint it on a rock as a keepsake. It's a great way to have fun with friends and maybe bring home a special treasure. All kids activities are for a very small donation, and kids keep whatever they find, win or have painted.
