Two-vehicle accident results in several injuries

A two-vefiicle crash occurred on 1-86 near milepost 46 on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at approximately 4:30 p.m. A 1993 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Gary Lujan, 55, of Pocatello, was traveling westbound when he was struck from the rear by a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Cory Hanks, 35, of Burley. Hanks was cited for inattentive driving.

The impact caused Lujan's Blazer to roll. A passenger in the Blazer, Christinna Pehrson, 51, of Pocatello, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Portneuf Medical Center by air ambulance with severe leg injuries.

Lujan sustained minor injuries and was transported to Portneuf Medical Center by ground ambulance. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn by Lujan or Pehrson.

Hanks was wearing his seatbelt and air bags did deploy in his vehicle at the time of the crash.
