Now that's a squash!
Now that's a squash! Nina Altshul of the Ajo Community-Supported Agriculture project gave a presentation at Monday's meeting of the Ajo Garden Club about local vegetable harvesting and how CSA works. The squash she is holding is a native often grown by Hopi and O'odham peoples.
Nina and her husband Peter produce a weekly newsletter during the harvest seasons about the Ajo CSA and cooking with vegetables. Articles are often submitted by Ajo area veggie lovers. CSA groups seeks to support local sustainable farming while eating healthy and protecting the environment.
Produce for the Ajo CSA project comes from Crooked Sky Farms in Phoenix. Registration is now going on for the March through May harvest. Half shares and half-season shares are available with early registration. For more information call Altshul at 387-3132.
