Anita Louise Phelps, 63, died at her home in Ajo on October 8, 2015.

She was born June 19, 1952, in Ilwaco, Washington, to Ben & Myrtle (Burden) McWhorter.

She lived in Alaska, graduating from Dimond High School in Anchorage in 1971.

In 2003, she retired as a loan processor with Northland Mortgage in Alaska.

She moved to Ajo in 2006 from Eagle River, Alaska.

Here, she was active in the Elks Lodge and took part in many civic events, including efforts to give buildings a new coat of paint.

Her family remembers her enjoyment of camping, travel, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Helping others was her passion, they said.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Wayne Wickberg.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Chad Lee & Shyloh Murdoch; by her daughter & son-in-law, Tara Lynn & James Barndt; by her brother Edd Wickberg; by her sisters, Nancy Johnson & Kathy Sands; and by her grandchildren Dylan, Sydnee, & Brinlee.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that her legacy be honored by performing a random act of kindness.

A celebration of life was led by Sarah Antone at the Elks Lodge on Tuesday, Ocober 13.

J. Warren handled cremation arrangements.
