Area jobs vanish as PNC prepares to take over RBC
Over 400 area residents will lose their jobs in Rocky Mount, PNC Financial Services Groups said.
PNC is acquiring RBC Bank for $3.5 billion.
As many as 425 out of the current 1,000 jobs will be eliminated at the RBC Operations Center in Rocky Mount as a result of the takeover. The employees were notified of the layoffs last week.
PNC filed a required 60-day notice with the North Carolina Department of Commerce under the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
The employees in Rocky Mount will be eliminated beginning March 16.
The acquisition is not expected to have any effect on local branches in Spring Hope and Bailey.
Fred Soloman, vice president for corporate communications for PNC, said there are no plans to shut down the Rocky Mount operations center. He did say there will be a consolidation of staffing. Future plans could call for the addition of employees.
