The public is invited to a "Festival in the Forest" to celebrate the natural resources and cultural diversity in the Tuskegee National Forest on Sept. 26 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Taska Recreation Area in Tuskegee. The USDA Forest Service is partnering with Tuskegee University College of Agriculture, Environmental and Nutrition Sciences and Auburn University College of Liberal Arts to host the event.

Please meet at Taska Recreation Area at 9 a.m. The first 20 participants who complete the walk will receive a re: ward. Register by calling (334)727-2652.

"Festival in the Forest" is an annual event that is held in the Tuskegee National Forest on Public Lands Day — a national event promotes environmental stewardship.

According to Tuskegee District Ranger Darrius Truss, participants can come out and enjoy educational and cultural activities all in the backdrop of their national forest.

"This is a great time to bring the family out to take a selfie with Smokey Bear, picnic at Taska or learn the importance of natural resources while walking a trail," said Truss 10=30 a.m.-3 p.m.:

Taska Recreation Area Activities: Take a selfie with Smokey Bear and Friends while enjoying outdoor recreational activities for all ages at Taska Recreation Area. Guided tours along the trails will also be available. Food vendors will be present. Please wear proper footwear. Activities will last through 3 p.m.
